I try to go to local places, but there is a once bitten twice shy aspect to shopping a small store. Especially as I travel often but stay for a long time in an area, if I encounter a small shop that doesn't have clearly posted prices or scanned barcode prices I get very worried about being charged the "tourist price". If it happens once, it poisons my mind against local shopping for the next ten times. I don't mind paying extra for convenience, but I can't do the haggle thing.
