If you allow, by law or culture, corporations to gain power then this is the inevitable result. For a corporation, humans are just raw material that will be ground to a pulp in its pursuit of profit.

It takes constant work and pressure to keep corporations from snuffing out all other drivers in an economy. Allow them to gain power and it is very unlikely they will ever give it up.
